2020 in Hindsight

Way back in September 2019, we got away for our annual planning and prayer retreat. As you might expect (especially those of you who know us well), we had a blast making puns about our “2020 Vision.” Like other years, we had no idea what would happen, but prayerfully made our plans as best we could.

We knew going into the year that we needed to figure out how to make our music career more sustainable. Unsure of the details, we felt strongly that we needed to focus on three things:

  1. Travel less.

  2. Start a Patreon.

  3. Consider doing more church music.

Traveling Less ... or Not at All

As you know all too well, a global pandemic made traveling, touring, and live performances in challenging at best, and in most cases nonexistent. I suppose we picked a good year to tour less!

Patreon

After years of deliberation, we finally felt like it was time to do some sort of crowdfunding. So in March, we launched our Patreon Community. First, we needed this to help transition from full-time road life. Then, the pandemic hit and we needed this just to pay the bills! Now, our hope is to allow Patreon to be both a way of connecting with our most committed followers, and funding ongoing Mr & Mrs Something projects from albums to music videos and beyond. Thank you to our Patreon Community and to those of you who have been generous beyond Patreon! If you would like to support us in this way, please visit our Patreon page.

Church Music?

Even though Mr & Mrs Something music comes from a perspective deeply rooted in faith, we know many of our listeners have different views. As such, we pride ourselves on making our music relatable to an extremely diverse audience. Many of you have noticed this and given us great affirmation and encouragement in this—thank you!

At the same time, we love the Church and have felt a growing passion for quality church music. So during 2019, when we weren’t on the road, we started helping out our dear friends at Calvary Christian Assembly. Being the church where Chelsea grew up and where we got married, it was deeply meaningful to be of service there. When the pandemic hit, we mutually decided to continue our service there until August. We then found a more permanent landing at Advent Anglican, where we currently serve part-time. The leadership at Advent has been nothing but appreciative of past Mr & Mrs Something projects, and supportive of our future projects and tours.

What’s Next?

With 2020 in the rearview mirror, what does 2021 hold? Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you posted!

Love,

Mr & Mrs Something
